Permission to invert? The past 5 months, my ex-junky friend Drew (who is now a misanthrope studying at harvard), got me turned onto the Joe Rogan podcasts...Through all of the podcasts I listened to, my favorite guest was certainly Duncan Trussell.

I know Emil briefly touched upon the fact that he was going to do a podcast at some point...Well here it is w/Duncan Trussell:

I liked this show better than the first one. It was strange how there was a shift in the discussion during the shows progression when Duncan slowly took the role of the idealistic optimist and Emil exceedingly had to defend his "pessimistic" view. It made me wonder what my viewpoint on this was and I think I'm like a pendulum between the two.

Most of the time, being realistic (meaning "guided by common sense" or "with a pragmatic perspective") can lead you to be tagged as a "pessimistic" guy, despite of the positive mood, the strength and the boldness you face facts. One thing is saying "We're fuct" because you're rotten by cynicism, and one other is being able to understand how we were, where we are, where we're going and... concluding "we're fuct".

My point is: Just because you and me like TAXI DRIVER, it doesn't mean we agree. This simple analogy comes handy to say that the same articulation of a conclusion ( "we're fuct") can come from two diametrical opposites (optimistic/pessimistic).

Facts are facts. And, after taking a look to the world today (from pop culture to spiritualism, not to mention "democracy") I do believe we're fuct up. The question is: am I being realistic or just pessimistic? Is possible to be optimistic when day after day reports about our REALITY sound so... inherently negative?

Answer: This is the way I deconstruct that apparent contradiction: When I see mankind as a whole/individual entity, I truly believe WE are not gonna make it. On the other hand, my faith (and trust) in particular INDIVIDUALS is not only intact, but reinvigorated (the older I get).

Amos is one of those individuals, a unique altruistic misanthrope: when he takes a look to the world he doesn't like what he sees... so it's not a secret he tries to stay away from "society" as much as he can. On the other hand, as an artist hes' SO devoted to his work, his ideas and his personal crusade that... I literally can't measure his mind-blowing generosity. That's the key word.

Man, that guy is prolific!! He can't stop. Obviously, he steps away from the "world" to embrace epiphanies, break them down into analog reproducible pieces and... rendering them into a medium we can witness and share. Is that a "pessimistic" man? I don't think so.

I see Amos as a "tall man walking": with the feet on the ground and head in the clouds...

It's hard... but it's possible.

Listening Emil's work makes me feel "taller". And I'm grateful for that.
