I've got lost with that particular song. From the very beginning. There is SOMETHING in the guts of the song that was getting me goose lumps, and I didn't realized what it was... until now:

FUTURE PRIMITIVE drives me to 1993, when I was... 14 and DEPECHE MODE just released SONGS OF FAITH & DEVOTION. I know, I know!!! Don't freak out!

It's a cluster of elements what made me trigger an emotional connection: the omnipresent reverb, the texture of the vocal-synths in the back, the "eiree blues" vibe of that riff... and those 4 chords at the beginning, descending from the heights one after another... to let the drums in. That killed me... because it's the closest I've ever been to commemorate "IN YOUR ROOM" (the album version, not the crappy remix). Hit me:

Who was gonna expect a song like that from a boy band, eh? Despite GRAILS & DM had nothing to do with each other and the songs are totally different... there is that "something" between them. My guts talked, not my brain...

No, my brain is confused.

It's funny, because it's easy not to rise brows when THE CURE's 17 SECONDS, PORNOGRAPHY or FAITH long plays come up in a conversation or an article as huge influences of bands like NEUROSIS or BREACH (yeah, now you know 2 of my favorite bands EVER), but when it comes to DEPECHE MODE, I must admit most people frowns. Because they are what they are, ok? I know. But... when I think about it, to me is ALL about SONGS OF FAITH & DEVOTION. Like a "one of a kind" miracle. There's something in that album that has literally nothing to do with the rest of the band's body of work. It tanscends the origin an the context.

I never saw this coming... until I felt it. So please, tell me that my synapses is not fatally miscalibrated here! I can't stop listening DEEP POLITICS and this is just one extremely personal reaction to one of the songs.

Anyway, before any of you put my ass on the streets, read my lips. Yes, I loved that particular album of DM when I was a teenager.

And I kneel today before the crusaders...

I don't hear that connection but you already said it is an emotional connection, so who is going to debate over that?

Anyway, I'm posting because I wanted to comment on something else in your post (even if there is the danger of getting totally "off-topic")...

BREACH.. !!!!!

To make a long story short... BREACH is one of those bands that fill aesthetic, semantic and metaphysical gaps of ANY musician. They are so vastly rich, powerful and unique at the same time... Jesus, what an underrated band...
