Yo, that Youth of Today video is so hard.

Great thread, great board, I'm going to have a look around...

<Burrow Away>

- written/recorded '08
- released '09 (Drifter's Sympathy)

"...just rest in the thorns,,
I like the thorns...
I'll reverse this world and wrap it around my horns...

They're kings upon a mound of trash,,
Why would I point out my stash?,,
It's cold out in the warmth... cold out in the warmth...

You've made me want to burrow away,,
...made me want to burrow away..."

...this one falls under an umbrella created by Neil Young's 'Will to Love'... one of the only instances you could imagine him as a lonely and limited four-tracker,, -
- 'Burrow Away' keeps the late-night by-the-campfire-vibe but under a different influence and channeling a darker lord...
...a rare instance of going back to using the cassette 4-track to record a newer song...10-4

...another winner!<,, nice Job DR>NEWCOMB!

I'm afraid there is no amazing tripping-in-the-woods while trying to kill someone story to this one,, bummer!,, ...the production of Peaceful Life was largely inspired by a cross-section of these records (but Family Man perversely added the double-pound Knight Rider bass-drum on the chorus)::

...'Saccharine Trust' and 'Song from the Conscience' stories coming tomorrow!...

<Saccharine Trust>

- written/recorded '05
- released '06 (Decline)

"Sun is up and I'm trailing down,, a twisted gift that I'm leaving out
and it's only on my mind...
Sick with dust//well on my way,, refuse that throne yet another day
and it's only on my mind...
I guess that I'd just lost my mind coming into this sobering kind,,
y'know that I had wrote and I write about those old dusty days
and their too many ways to be dissatisfied...

Praise and curse my memory,, it's something that's still making me
...it's only on my mind...
Curse this ____ I'm holding tight,, a criminal needs a haven tonight
...only on my mind...
I guess that I'll descend to this tune like a fucking firework over the moon
so you can salute me down and forever gaze upon this gold-plated frown
now you can remember me"

...feeling that this was a totally overt pop song it seemed good to give it a song title admitting that up front... thinking that "Saccharine Trust" was one of the greatest band names ever,, I used that... not long after that Jack Brewer, singer of Saccharine Trust, contacted me and said that his wife and him had been listening to the song a lot and felt it was a fitting tribute for the band... it was really out of the blue and awesome,, I'd mostly known them from hearing their rendition of 'Six Pack' from a classic SST compilation when I was a kid called 'Duck and Cover' which featured the unbelievable cover of 'Eight Miles High' by Husker Du (their best moment in my opinion), Dinosaur's cover of 'Just like Heaven' and the Descendents doing 'Wendy'... ...I still can't hear the original 'Wendy' as quite right because the Descendents version was the standard for skate-brats like me... I don't remember saying anything to Jack about Dinosaur being my favorite band in highschool but months later a single kodak picture appeared in my mailbox of a reflection of J Mascis staring blankly into an aquarium tank of stingrays...

...the song began as a tribute to the night before I had to go off to college and I stayed up all night with some friends trying to 'celebrate' until the dreaded moment I had to leave... the opening lyrics were built off of a memory of walking home with the sun coming up on the train tracks that led back to my house wearing my shirt on my head and carrying a huge chunk of red opium that my friend had given me as a going away present = twisted gift that I'm leaving out...

Saccharine Trust's Six Pack:

this one just always sounds a little limp after that... Dennis is rocking it though!

Here's a shot at

<Things You Do While Waiting For The Apocalypse>

- written/recorded '05
- released '06

Amen to the search for the knowledge of this world
Wishing that it sprung from every soul like a pearl
Did you do your own research?
Did you build from the ground your own church?
Down with the written histories
for those burned up books that we can not read
Celebrate the graves that you stand upon
this is love to the deaths that I'm standing on
A claustrophobic magic spirals, sickens and swirls
Can you feel the failure that I've felt with the girls?
Liberation's out, bring the mind prisons back in
Get 'em safe, keep 'em safe, forget the past
Through eras their sickness last

Obsolescence pre-designed
Been picking fights with that lobotomized mind
Lock-down commencing soon
Too many graveyards on the moon
I can't forget until my mind dies
Tell the future eras we tried
We're sending up flares,
Breed in good pairs
Fight with bare hands to occupy their chairs

I can't forget until my mind dies...

Excellent work DR>Hermann!
