thanks for that, I didn't think to check amazon. I don't reckon I'd spring for a vinyl copy of a compilation, but those belly dance albums with the cheesy harem scenes on the covers are another story... according to radio bastet () rhythms of the orient can't be beat. haven't managed to find a single copy yet.

hey amy...yeah, i scored both of those belly dance records for pretty cheap on ebay several years ago. they're ok, nothing spectacular, tho. i came across them when i was looking for these records:

http://waxidermy.com/omar-khorshid-with ... s-1-and-2/ --check out the mp3!

i think i have vinyl rips of the belly dance records, i can send if you're interested? and i definitely have mp3's of 'rhythms of the orient', just lemme know. or are you more interested in collecting the LP's?

as far as overall quality, that Sublime F. compilation is really good, probably includes all of the must-hear stuff. but yeah, i wouldn't pay the $40 or whatever bullshit they charge for their vinyl. no thanks.

hey alex, would love rips of those belly dance records for sure! happy to buy over-priced 2nd hand records if they're really good, (I do really like those covers) but since it usually costs about $30 to ship vinyl to australia I'd rather be sure that the music is worth it. found rips of rhythms from the orient and tribute to oum koulsoum on a blog, but no luck with the others...I trust your judgment when you say they're nothing special, but they may hold some appeal for a belly dance enthusiast that they didn't for you. thanks for the link to waxidermy as well, what a rad site!

I still can't get over how good these songs are!! I've been listening to this playlist non-stop. That one Czech Mahavishnu type song blew me away! I wonder if my Dad used to hang out with any of those dudes. He used to hang with Modry Efekt (or Blue Effect) who were the biggest and probably the best Prog band to come out of Czech. I got just about all their records.
